So maybe I’m a bit overdue for a vacation recap at this point. To be honest, I’ve kinda been avoiding it, and because of that, I haven’t been able to write anything else. God forbid we get out of order here…
I left for Long Island Friday morning, apparently not a moment too soon. Friday night, almost everyone in northern VA lost power. I was already dripping sweat while putting bags into my car, and I can’t imagine how it was to spend the night without power/AC. I don’t believe I would have fared well during the storms either, I have an intense, irrational fear of lightning storms. My reaction every time?
During vacation, I spent my time catching up with family, laying out in the sun, reading, cooking, thrifting, antiquing, boating, biking and laughing more than I have in awhile.
Some highlights:
Going to see Ted (that movie was innappopriate, and hilarious)
Summer Recipes
Spending an afternoon sailing
Finding berry flavored Sour Patch Kids. uh-mazing
Trying out a plethora of ridiculous hats
Reading on the beach at dusk
Sunsets on sunsets on sunsets
Hellenic Greek food with some of my extended family
Celebrating the 4th in style
Lots of opportunity to play around with the camera
Miniature golf with my brothers and cousins
We lucked out with gorgeous weather the entire time. Probably the biggest miracle, though, was that there were zero jellyfish, ZERO! I cannot remember the last summer I have not been stung while swimming, it was glorious. Best Long Island vacation in awhile? I think so.

Food for thought:
- I had such a fun time taking pictures in NY that I’m thinking about getting an SLR. Right now I have a Cannon Powershot S95 that takes amazing pictures considering the ease and portability, but I want to have a camera to get a bit more artsy with. If you have any suggestions, shoot them my way please!
