Showers and sails

This weekend was spent in the best way I can think, filled with family. After spending Friday traveling up to Long Island, things officially started Saturday morning with a baby shower for my Aunt. My mom and I had spent a few months working on games, gifts, themes, decorations, food, favors and every other detail imaginable. The finished product?

Loved these globes for decorating. I want them around my house!

The gender of the new baby is going to be a surprise (I only have boy cousins and I’m selfishly hoping for one more girl around the place), so we went with a green and yellow color scheme. The soon-to-be parents are decorating the nursery with animals and we tried to stick with that theme as much as possible.

We actually found this stroller during a run yesterday morning! My mom and I stopped off at a yard sale and the previous owner only wanted $5 for it, I honestly felt like we were ripping them off.

We asked each guest to write new-mother advice, gathering from their experiences with their own children. It was so neat to hear everyone share their personal and hilarious stories about child rearing. And the food?

Delicious! Beach potato salad (with bacon and red onion), broccoli salad, tomatoes with feta and basil, chicken salad, and baked salmon. There was plenty of apple cider to wash it down too. Dessert came in the form of party favors.

Cinnamon buns put together with tags reading “Thank you for celebrating with Andrea and her Bun in the Oven. Enjoy this sweet treat!”. These favors were easy, fun and inexpensive enough. With the printed tag and ribbon, we looked pretty professional. I guess you could say we did a pretty good job, in the end we were proud of ourselves for pulling everything together. And yes, she was still surprised.

The rest of the day consisted of sitting on the beach with a beautiful view, 70 degrees in October is hard to come by up here.

What better way to celebrate Columbus Day weekend than back at its roots? Sails and everything.
